It’s Spring on FriFotos

Purple Tulips at Keukenhof Gardens Amsterdam

This week’s FriFotos on Twitter theme is Spring.  With the harsh winter on the East Coast, I’ve been dreaming of the Spring season with every inch of snow shoveled (a bit over 60 inches or 5 feet!).  Unfortunately, Mother Nature has had other ideas for the East Coast and Spring has been a season so far of cold, rain, wind, repeat, bonus sunny day, cold, rain, rain, rain, clouds.  Basically, we’ve been on an April “spring showers” repeat button so my thoughts of Spring as the season are memories fighting to be reality.  I want to smell the cut grass, see the flowers (and the sun would be nice too!) emerge from slumber and even deal with allergies, if necessary, to welcome a proper Spring and put Winter behind.  So a few “Spring” photos this FriFotos

Spring Forward with Daylight Savings Time

Daylight Savings Time in the US differs from other parts of the world (namely the UK which is a few weeks later) when all the clocks move forward as we try to capture more of the sun and light we missed in the cold winters.  Daylight Savings Time is also the time when you realize how many clocks you have to reset, smoke alarm batteries to change, etc.  It is also a time for spring cleaning, spring projects and to spend time in the garden – it’s a bit of a starting point to welcome the season.

Spring in your Step in St. Petersburg, Russia

You’ve got “a spring in your step” is a saying for when you are happy, confident, bouncy.  I don’t know the origin of the saying but I think they also shoveled a lot of East Coast snow and were so happy to see the sun of Spring that they acted a bit like Tigger and bounced.

I love this photo in the gardens of Peterhof Palace in St. Petersburg.  The gardens have so many water features that are impressive given the artistry and technical details built eons ago. This fountain is activated by pressure on certain stones so the children each try to figure out which is the best path through without activating the water fountain.  All the children ended up wet with this fun feature the day I visited.
