FriFotos – Coast to Coast across Oceans and Continents

Cape Point South Africa

This week’s FriFotos theme is “Coast” and given how much I relish being on or near the water, let’s just say I have many (thousands) photos coast to coast – around the world, across oceans and continents. The coasts around the world hold such wonder and surprise for me that they always make me smile in sun and clouds – hope you agree with my photo choices this week.

The animals along the Coast

Indicative of any coast is the myriad of birds, gulls, seals, whales, wildlife both in and out of the water as well as flowers and trees.

The Coast of Tasmania (Australia)

On the boat ride along the coast of Tasmania, we encountered whales (a treat), seals and stunning natural formations.  Despite the rainy, overcast day, the coast was spectacular (working on a future post withvideo hoping to capture a bit of the boat ride).

Europe

Having traveled through Europe on a few cruises – Baltic, Mediterranean and Turkey/Greek Isles, each port provides a new coastal view. One of my favorite coastal views is in Santorini – as you approach the port, we were tendered to the dock to queue for the funicular to the top of the town.  What a view!

Easter Island

One of the more memorable views of the coast, was climbing in a hole in the ground to crawl in the cave of two windows.  The result was amazing and I didn’t even think what else was in the cave in the dark with me, that’s how beautiful the view was from inside.

Western Australia – On my trip to Perth, I visited Rottnest Island, simply one of the more breathtaking views I’ve encountered (despite the crazy flies that attack) as well as the part of the coast where the two oceans meet.

South Africa

Visiting Cape Town, I added the Cape Peninsula tour which would drive along the coast with such pretty views before arriving at Cape of Good Hope, first thought to be the intersection of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans but later proved to be a bit further along the coast.   We would then visit Cape Point.  A good tour for the day to see the beauty of nature.

The U.S. – Washington State

The Pacific Northwest has a plethora of coastal experiences ready to be tackled by boat, ferry, kayak, seaplane, car, foot and bike (I’m probably missing a few other transit ideas).  My favorite way to see the coast is the Washington State Ferry to the San Juan Islands and then a whale watching tour.  If you haven’t done this yet from Seattle, make sure to put it on your “must do” list.

I will end this week’s FriFotos (Coast) with the classic coastal photo (this from the San Juan Islands).  Hopefully, I showed you a few different views coast to coast around the world – across oceans and continents.
