My morning walk over Tower Bridge was wonderful. The early morning summer air was still crisp, while the sun was casting its warm shadows before the tourists were set to arrive for their selfies and tours. After decades of visits to London, this morning stroll was a quiet luxury I was enjoying as a benefit of staying around the corner at The Dixon Hotel in London, a Marriott Autograph Hotel. The Dixon always pops up in my Marriott searches of London and has intrigued me for a while as I love a historic property that has been renovated and turned into a boutique hotel.
Tower Bridge Hotel Location
The Dixon Hotel has a wonderful location awash in iconic London attractions such as Tower Bridge and Tower of London with walking, train and boat access nearby. On my walk from London Bridge station to the Dixon with luggage it was about ten minutes on the main road so I didn’t see the need for a taxi. I passed many restaurants such as Flat Iron, Honest Burger along with a variety of pubs. There was a football match ongoing and I could hear the roars of the crowds when the team scored. Next to The Dixon Hotel is a corner pub which is a good option to tick off your list “British Pub” to get a pint.

You can walk over the bridge to Tower of London and get the Uber Boat to sail down the Thames to Embankment for access to London Eye, Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and a walk to Buckingham Palace. If you choose to stay on the side of the hotel and the main road you can walk down to London Bridge (not to be confused with Tower Bridge) past London Bridge Station (main tube, train and overground options), the Shard and further down to Borough Market. You can also join the Thames walking path at Borough Market down Southbank past The Globe Theatre, Tate Modern, Millenium Bridge and St. Paul’s Cathedral down to The London Eye. You’ll also see tourist hop on/hop off busses, regular busses and taxis aplenty if you don’t want to walk. All this to say that the Dixon Hotel London is in a great location for the first time traveler to London who is keen to see the main attractions along the Thames by foot, taxi, tube or boat in a short time.

The Dixon Hotel, Marriott Autograph in London
Arriving at the impressive building which houses the Dixon Hotel, I walked up a few stairs to the large wooden doors evidence of a historic building and when I opened them, the interior renovation and design was swoon worthy in dark woods, color and textures. The chandelier and the stairs were also stunningly designed.

The bellman was otherwise engaged with another family otherwise would have been outside to open the doors for me and offer to assist. He apologized when he saw me with my luggage that I carried up the stairs. I told him it wasn’t a problem, no worries. He pointed me to the left of the lobby where the front desk staff was quick to welcome me and sort my King room. The hotel a variety of room configurations including a King bed, twin room (great for friends traveling together) as well as a family room in London which has a King bed and two twin beds, sleeping four. The hotel has nearly 200 rooms which is impressive given that it feel almost empty during my stay and was fully booked, a testament to how the space is laid out across the buildings and floors as well as the different guest daily timing in and out of the hotel.
The elevators to the rooms were down the hall which was adorned with memorabilia to evoke memories of the former Magistrates Court that the building housed during its history. The elevator bank was on the left with the lobby all day restaurant ahead.

Dixon Hotel King Room
Walking into my room felt like I had entered the website photo gallery – no surprises to the black, white and yellow color scheme. The King room was smallish but practical with how the space was being used with the bed, television, bar and a lounge chair.
The bathroom was a lovely surprise with the plush robe hanging behind the door and the pleasant-smelling toiletries. The walk-in shower delivered a powerful stream of hot water which was quite welcome after the long travel day.

I slept really well with the room darkening shades and didn’t hear any noise from the street below nor did I hear any noise in the room next door or the hallway. A hotel gets high marks when my Oura ring tells me I had a great night of sleep and earn a crown for it.
Dixon Hotel Breakfast Buffet
I booked a rate that included breakfast and that worked out well for my schedule. The breakfast buffet offered a few stations to help yourself and if you want to order hot dish like eggs or an omelet, the server can assist you. The staff was very friendly and helpful from start to finish. The restaurant is open to the public as well as hotel guests. During my visit, it was crowded early but the food was replenished throughout.

Final Verdict – The Dixon Hotel London
Marriott has a plethora of hotel brands in London and the Autograph Collection continues to impress me with the boutique design and contemporary touches in a variety of buildings throughout the city, often in historic buildings such as this one. The Dixon Hotel in London is a unique property and showcases its history in the interior design and décor. You may not have heard of the hotel before but that makes it even a better discovery to keep to yourself. You can redeem Marriott points to stay in London at the Dixon Hotel with rates starting at 54,000 per night but I’ve found that the cash rate is often the better deal.
I look forward to staying at the Dixon Hotel in the future. I can’t stress enough how the morning walk across Tower Bridge with the view of the Thames, Tower of London and the skylines is like nothing else in the world for me and hopefully you feel that way too!
