FriFotos: “Silver” in Art

In my travels, I love to stumble upon various outdoor art installations. Walking around the cities and towns, I’m always on the lookout for sculptures, murals, statues, signs and all kinds of art displays (cookie and cupcake art counts as well!).  While we are all so busy in our lives, I challenge you to look up/around/away from your phone to see what art is displayed in your hometown and during your travels. Now that i look everywhere, I see the world in a different way at a macro/micro level which adds to my experience.

Chicago

My visit to Chicago wasn’t complete without visiting “the bean” on my walk to the Art Institute of Chicago.  In the park, the tourists like me were all entralled by this public art display -it’s just a really cool sculpture in my opinion.

Santiago

As i got lost in Santiago (not really lost, just wrong metro exit), I wandered the street and happened upon a wonderful outdoor art installation of mixed media, colors and textures.  As I was in the business district,  I wonder how many people walk by and don’t notice it all as they are busy on their phones and doing business as they quickly walked on.  I totally played tourist at each and every piece taking photos.

Airport Art

The Wall Street Journal recently wrote about the airport art scene, given all of the time we spend at the airport, I see this as a good thing.  You’d be surprised at the level of art in the airport nowadays.  In the Seattle airport, I stopped to admire the art (to the chagrin of the people walking too close behind me) and take photos.  This reminds me of the infinity symbol which then led me to think about Buzz Lightyear “to infinity and beyond!” which made me smile.

Signs

In Capetown and many places around the world, you will see the signs to tell you how far away you are from major cities of the world. While Philadelphia is never displayed, New York and D.C. always are so I can split the difference to figure out how far from home I am.  These are fun signs – who would know that the sign to Sydney is pointing me to my next big adventure.
