When Vanessa at Turnipseed Travel tagged me to participate in the Travel Supermarket’s Capture the Colour (ah the British spelling…) contest, I was happy to participate. Â Each travel blogger creates a post of five photos to represent the primary colors of red, blue, green, yellow and white. Â As I’ve just started writing about South Africa (the flag of which contains all five colours), I thought it apt to showcase the country in the primary colours. This is my South Africa in Photos…..
Red
Walking along the waterfront in Capetown, you can’t miss this Coca Cola crate sculpture  (i first thought very large Lego) to celebrate the Olympic pride from 2012.  Brings new meaning to “a Coke and a smile”
Blue
On safari, the sheer number of colorful birds is surprising, I’ve only seen the city bird called “pigeon” all these years. Â You need to be quick to capture the birds in the trees, in this photo, the blue/teal bird was on the ground as one of many animals looking for scapes from the lion kill of the buffalo. Â The circle of life was present that morning on our game drive.
Green
The famous South African Garden Route from Capetown to Port Elizabeth is a three day drive (pick your roadtrip mates well) that goes along a two lane road winding through the mountains and small towns.  I was sitting in the back of the tour van with views on either side of me but this captures my feeling of  looking at what lies ahead and what we left behind.
Yellow
The Yellow Bird of Paradise was created at the Kirstenbosh Gardens in South Africa. Â It was renamed “Mandela’s Gold” in honour of Nelson Mandela. Â The garden is a must visit when in Capetown – you don’t need to like flowers to appreciate the gardens, you can sit and be thankful that you are in such a beautiful country as I did.
White
Everyone says “you must go to Table Mountain in Capetown” but never really said why. Â After my visit, I realized they don’t say why because you are left speechless by the amazing views on all sides of the mountain. Â Being up above the clouds was unreal – looking out at the clouds was incredible (especially without my airplane seat). Â I really don’t have the right words to explain the awe.
This is a fun contest that I don’t need a million “likes” for but looking at the competition (NatGeo worthy and professionals), I might have better luck finding a single man with no issues!

I love the red one especially. The green is really cool as well. Great photographs overall. I would love to get to South Africa someday soon.
Thank you Anwar – the red one always makes me smile
